The result of this week's competition was very poor. We didn't make it to the semi-final and finish the competition in place 16 out of 24 couples in the D-class. The redance with 15 couples on the floor was extremely crowded and we decided to put our focus on movement and floor craft. We succeeded in this but lost also a lot of quality in the process. Probably this was not appreciated by the adjudicators. Better performance is expected for the next competition in two weeks.
Het resultaat van onze kompetitie deze week was zeer slecht. We zijn niet in de halve finale geraakt en eindigen op plaats 16 van 24 paren in de D-klasse. In onze herkansingsronde waren we met 15 paren op de vloer wat het enorm druk maakt. In deze ronde kozen we voor beweging om op te vallen. Hierdoor hebben we veel in kwaliteit moeten inboeten. Waarschijnlijk werd dit niet door de jury gewaardeerd. We verwachten een betere prestatie volgende wedstrijd in twee weken.
This competition is always difficult for us. For some reason we never make it to the final in Badhoevedorp. This time again we end on place 8 from 19 couples. We are one mark short to reach the final. However, we were pleased with our dancing.
This is a special competition because the winners of each class have to dance a mixed final. In this mixed final the winning couples are mixed up and dance for the best entertainment price. This is always fun. Below you see a video of the mixed final and a list of the competitors.
Badhoevedorp is altijd een moeilijke kompetitie voor ons. Hier halen we nooit de finale. Deze keer eindigen we op plaats 8 van 19 paren. We komen 1 cross tekort voor de finale. Toch waren we tevreden over onze danskwaliteit.
Dit is een speciale wedstrijd daar de winnaars van iedere klasse een gemixte finale dansen. In deze finale worden koppels gemixt en danst men voor de entertainment prijs. Het is altijd leuk, koppels die nog nooit met elkaar gedanst hebben. Hieronder zie je een video van deze mix-finale en een lijst van de deelnemers.

The Citizens Hall Church (Bürgersaalkirche) in the Neuhauserstraβe is a church build in 1710 in the Baroque style. It is an extraordinary church, when you enter you see a very low ceiling with arches. The statues on both sides of the church represent the crossening of Christ. The church on the first floor (only open between 11:00 and 13:00), is unbelievable with it's heigh painted ceilings. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Certainly worth a visit.
De burgerhalkerk (Bürgersaalkirche) in de Neuhauserstraβe is een kerk gebouwd in 1710 in de Barok stijl. Het is een buitengewone kerk, wanneer je binnengaat zie je een laag plafond met bogen. Aan beide kanten van de onderkerk vind je beelden van de kruisgang van Christus terug. De kerk op het eerste verdiep (open tussen 11:00 en 13:00), is ongelooflijk mooi met zijn hoge plafonds en wandschilderijen. Ik denk dat de foto's voor zichzelf spreken. Zeker een bezoekje waard.
One of my favourite restaurants in Munich is Masters Home (Frauenstraße 11). It is an Italian Restaurant. One could say, oh again pizza or pasta. This is not the case in Masters Home. This place serves high quality ingredients ranging from fresh tuna, truffle and lamb. The chef is very creative and the service if super with an Italian flair. A little detail, the restaurant has no menu card. The Chef serves you the best of the market of that day. A real recommendation.
Een van mijn favoriete restaurants in München is Masters Home (Frauenstraße 11). Het is een Italiaans Restaurant. Men zou kunnen zeggen, oh terug pizza of pasta. Hier worden top ingredienten geserveerd zoals verse tonijn, truffels en lam. De chef is heel creatief en de service in de zaal is super met een Italiaanse flair. Een klein detail, het restaurant heeft geen menu kaart. De chef maakt voor u de beste marktprodukten van de dag. Dit restaurant is een echte aanrader.
This week at Munich airport the new Audi A8 was introduced. The luxury car will be available for sale in the showroom end of March. As you can see on the pictures many new A8's were on display. The Audi club was also offering test drives for customers.
Deze week werd de nieuwe Audi A8 geïntroduceerd op de luchthaven van München. De luxe wagen zal beschikbaar zijn voor verkoop in onze showrooms vanaf het einde van de maand maart. Zoals je kan zien op de foto's, heeft Audi zeer vele A8's tentoongesteld. De Audi club bood ook testritten aan voor klanten.
On our last day, we had 2 lectures from Andrea Kiefer in the Waltz and the Tango. She was 8 times German Champion Standard Professional. Both lessons were very pleasant and focussed on control of the body and foot pressure.
Op onze laatste dag hebben we nog 2 lessen gehad van Andrea Kiefer in de Wals en de Tango. Zij was 8 keer Duits Kampioen Professionals. Beide lessen waren zeer leuk en gingen over lichaamscontrole en voetdruk.
On Saturday we had 2 lectures (Waltz, Slow Fox) from Isabel Edvardsson and Marcus Weiβ. This is one of the most popular Professional German couples. We were really impressed by their lectures about leading by using the knees and rotation.
Our 3rd lecture was from Hans Laxholm in the Tango. The topic was on body weight and using the standing leg. Mr. Laxholm is known as one of the best Standard trainers of this time. For us the lecture was too difficult and we didn't enjoy it.
The evening show was unbelievable with demo's from: - Stefano di Filippo & Olga Urumova (Amateur World Champion with new partner) - Mirko Gozzoli & Edita Daniute (3 times professional World Champion with new partner)

Op zaterdag hebben we 2 lectures gekregen (Wals, Slow Fox) van Isabel Edvardsson en Marcus Weiβ. Dit is een van de meest populaire Duitse prof paren. We waren zeer onder de indruk van hun les over het leiden in de dans door gebruik van rotatie en knieen.
Onze 3de les van Hans Laxholm in de Tango ging over het gebruik van lichaamsgewicht en het standbeen. Dhr. Laxholm staat bekend als een van de beste Standaard trainers van deze tijd. Voor ons was de les te moeilijk en niet leuk.
Het avondprogramma was ongelooflijk met Shows van: - Stefano di Filippo & Olga Urumova (Amateur Wereldkampioen met nieuwe partner)
- Mirko Gozzoli & Edita Daniute (3 voudig Professioneel Wereldkampioen met nieuwe partner)
On Friday, the show didn't include a top standard couple but it was great with: Op vrijdag, was er geen top standaard paar in de show maar het was toch ongelooflijk met:
- Rock'n Roll from Maurizio and Jade Mandorino
- Latin from Alexei Silde and Anna Firstova (world Amateur Champions)
- West coast swing from Ben Morris and Melina Ramirez
- Standard from a German Juvenile couple

On the second day we had 3 workshops from Mirko Gozzoli (World Champion Standard Professionals) in the Slow Foxtrot, Waltz and Quickstep. The topic of all workshops was swing. Mirko gave us some extremely good exercises to build up this swing and to control compression.We are staying in the hotel Colosseo in Europa Park. The dance evenings are crowded and everyone enjoys the live music.
Op de tweede dag hebben we 3 workshops gevolgd van Mirko Gozzoli (Wereldkampioen Standaard Professionals) in de Wals, Slow Foxtrot en Quickstep. Het onderwerp van alle lessen was swing. Mirko heeft ons enkele zeer goede oefeningen aanbevolen om onze swing op te bouwen en compressie te controleren. We verblijven in het Europa Park hotel Colosseo. De dansavonden zijn druk bezocht en iedereen geniet van de live band.
On our fist day we had 3 workshops from Pia David. Pia was 5 times German Ballroom Champion. We had a workshop in the Slow Waltz, Tango and Slow Foxtrot. We learned a lot and enjoyed all lectures.
The evening shows were fantastic and we will try to share this with you by adding some videos on this blog. Benedetto Ferrugia & Claudia Köhler (World Champions Modern Amateurs) and Michael Malitowski & Joanna Leunis (World Champions Latin Professional) both gave a show of 5 dances. It was unbelievable.

We started our own video account on YouTube and here is the first video. The Slow Waltz in the NADB competition (D-class) in Kerkdriel. We are dancing with number 193, white dress.We reached the final and end the competition in place 5 from 14 couples.
We hebben onze eigen video profiel aangemaakt op YouTube en hier is onze eerste video. De langzame wals op de NADB competitie (D-Klasse) te Kerkdriel. We dansen met nummer 193, witte jurk. We behaalden de finale en eindigen op de 5de plaatst van de 14 paren.
The Atomuim was build in 1958 for the world expo in Brussels. The building represents the symbol "Iron" but 165 billions times enlarged. It is almost 103 meter high and has nine bolls. During 2006 the Atomium was renovated. However, the government considered to remove it because of the financial burden on the city of Brussels. I am pleased they decided to keep it and didn't destroy one of the most important symbols of Belgium. Certainly worth a visit.
Het Atomium werd gebouwd voor de wereldtentoonstelling te Brussel in 1958. Het gebouw weerspiegelt het symbool "Ijzer", maar dan 165 miljard keer vergroot. Het is bijna 103 meter hoog en bestaat uit negen bollen. Gedurende 2006 werd het Atomium gerenoveerd. De overheid heefd echter overwogen het gebouw af te breken vanwege het te hoge kostenplaatje voor de stad Brussel. Ik ben zeer blij dat men beslist heeft het te behouden en een van de belangrijkste symbolen van Belgie niet af te breken. Zeker een bezoekje waard.
The Gooiland Trophy in Hilversum is one of the rare NADB Ballroom competitions in a regular Dance school. Almost all other competitions are in sport halls. It was a small competition with only 17 couples in our class (D-class). This week we changed parts of our Tango and Slow fox, which makes it more difficult. The first round and the semi final were successful. Together with 7 other couples we reached the final. In the final all dances were good except the Quickstep. This was a total disaster, we had so many problems with traffic on the floor that we completely messed up our program. In an angry mood we had to resort to basic steps and ended the tournament in place 7.
De Gooiland Trophy in Hilversum is 1 van de weinige NADB competities in een gewone dansschool. Bijna alle andere gaan door in sporthallen. Het was een kleine competitie en in onze klasse (D) waren er enkel 17 deelnemende paren. Deze week brachten we wijzigingen aan in onze Tango en Slow fox programma's. Dit maakte het wel wat moeilijker. De eerste ronde en de halve finale waren succesrijk. We bereiken de finale met 7 andere paren. In de finale gaan alle dansen goed, behalve de Quickstep. Deze was een totale ramp. We hadden problemen met het verkeer en verknoeiden compleet ons programma. Kwaad en teleurgesteld werken we onze Quickstep af met enkel basisfiguren. We eindigen de competitie op plaats 7.
This weekend we went to the Holiday Fair in Brussels. It was extremely busy, I suppose many people are interested to book a holiday or look for information. Our interest was mainly aimed at the worldwide travel and cruises. We have never been on a cruise and it's very hard to find your way in the labyrinth of companies offering cruises. The choices are difficult: price, expected quality, entertainment, places to visit, size of the ship.... We returned home confused and with several brochures. The search for the most suitable cruise can start.
Dit weekend zijn we naar het vakantiesalon geweest in Brussel. Het was zeer druk, ik veronderstel dat veel mensen interesse hadden een vakantie te boeken of naar informatie uitkijken. Onze belangstelling ging voornamelijk uit naar wereldreizen en cruises. We zijn nog nooit op een cruise geweest en vinden het zeer moeilijk onze weg te vinden in het labyrint van rederijen. De keuzes zijn moeilijk: kostprijs, kwaliteitsverwachtingen, welke plaatsen bezoek je, grootte van het schip... Verwart keren we terug naar huis beladen met brochures. De zoektocht naar de meest geschikte cruise kan starten.
This is a competition we always look forward to. It is one of the few events in The Netherlands with so many participants in each class. The dance floor is more than 500 sqm and is much wider than in other competitions. This makes it difficult for many couples to respect the dance directions. We also had difficulties to fit our program into the unusual shape of the floor. The event was a huge success and we can only congratulate the organisation for the demo's, warm-up space, wardrobe, shops, parking, catering...
We finish the competition in place 15 out of 28 couples. This was very disappointing for us after the finals we danced in the last two competitions. Most likely the jury wanted to see something else on Sunday. For our first round we shouldn't look for excuses, it was just poor. The redance we danced very good but only received 6 marks. It is a pity that for such a big competition only 5 adjudicators are available in each class. It makes it more of a lottery when you know that couples with only 9 marks out of 20 make it to the next round.
The organisation should consider changing it's name next year to "Wijchen Swingt Nationaal". Almost no foreign couples participated and only one adjudicator was from outside The Netherlands, in the D-class none. In my opinion this is not international at all.
Naar deze competitie kijken we altijd uit. Het is een van de weinige wedstrijden in Nederland met zoveel deelnemers in iedere klasse. De dansvloer is meer dan 500 vierkante meter en is veel breder dan op andere wedstrijden. Dit maakt het voor de deelnemende paren veel moeilijker de dansrichtingen te respecteren. Wij ondervonden ook moeilijkheden ons programma op deze ongewoon brede vloer te brengen. Het evenement was een enorm succes en we kunnen enkel de organisatie loven voor hun demo's, opwarmmogelijkheden, kleedruimtes, garderobe, winkels, parkeermogelijkheden, catering...
We eindigen de competitie op plaats 15 van 28 paren. Dit was zeer teleurstellend voor ons daar we de laatste twee wedstrijden de finale bereikten. Waarschijnlijk wou de jury op zondag iets anders zien. Voor onze eerste ronde was er geen enkel excuus, het was gewoon zwak. In de herkansing hebben we zeer goed gedanst, maar we kregen enkel 6 crossen. Het is spijtig dat er voor een zodanig grote competitie enkel 5 juryleden worden ingezet. Het wordt meer een soort loterij als je weet dat verschillende paren naar de volgende ronde worden doorgeplaatst met enkel 9 crossen van een maximum van 20.
We raden de organisatie aan een naamwijziging te overwegen naar "Wijchen Swingt Nationaal". Er waren bijna geen internationale paren aanwezig en slechts 1 buitenlands jurylid, in de D-klasse geen. In mijn bescheiden mening is dit totaal niet Internationaal.

Early morning, I am going for a walk on the Viktualienmarkt on my way to work. It's very cold but surprisingly no snow, which is exceptional this time of the year. The viktualienmarkt is a market place where they sell food products like: fruit, cheese, meat, fish, vegetables, wild products... The name Vitualien comes from "lebensmitteln" or food products. This is a very nice place to visit during spring and summer where you can enjoy a beer on a terrace or a freshly squeezed juice. In the background you see the church of the Holy Spirit (St. Peter). I can't wait to go there again to enjoy a beer in the summer.
In de vroege morgen op weg naar het werk, wandel ik op de Viktualienmarkt. Het is zeer koud en er ligt geen sneeuw wat uitzonderlijk is voor deze tijd van het jaar. De Viktualienmarkt is een markt waar voedingsmiddelen worden verkocht zoals: fruit, kaas, vlees, vis, groenten, wild... De naam Viktualien komt van "lebensmitteln" of voedingsmiddelen. Dit is een zeer mooie plaats om in de lente of de zomer te genieten van een biertje of een vers geperst fruitsapje. Op de achtergrond zie je de kerk van de Heilige Geest (St. Peter). Ik kan bijna niet wachten tot de zomer om hier terug een biertje te gaan drinken.
It's always nice to go for a walk in Munich. Here in the early morning you see the medieval Gothic Gates (in German Tor) of the ancient city wall. There are still three gates in the city. Here you see the Sendlinger Tor and the Isartor. They were both build early 14th century. On the Isartor you find a fresco painting which displays the triumph of Ludwig from Bavaria after the victory against the Habsburgers in 1322.
Het is altijd leuk een wandeling te maken door München. Hieronder zie je de Sendlinger Tor en de Isartor in de vroege ochtend, twee van de drie nog bestaande gotische stadspoorten. Beide poorten werden gebouwd in het begin van de 14de eeuw. Op de Isartor vind je een fresco van de overwinning van Ludwig van Bayern tegen de Habsburgers in 1322.
